North East Region

The NWR North East Region is divided into five areas each of which contains a number of groups as set out below. If you cannot find a group near you please get in touch as new groups are being formed all the time.

Durham City Various  Meetings are fortnightly rotating Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays and cover a variety of topics. We also have a monthly Book Group, a Theatre Group and a very full and varied NWR Plus day time programme. Our programme includes visits to museums, art galleries, walks, day trips and always with coffee and/or lunch! In fact if you have an idea for an outing we are willing to give it a go. We like to improve our minds and have fun.

Hartlepool Fortnightly on Thursdays.  Ours is a small group, some of whom have been members for 30 years. Our programme is varied with discussions, outings,theatre visits and food seems to come into a lot of our evenings. We would welcome any new members  Contact Hartlepool
Northallerton Fortnightly  Lively, intelligent, welcoming, creative women, with a wide range of interests. Meets fortnightly, also supper, walking, lunch, coffee and culture groups.

Morpeth Monthly  Meetings take place on alternate Mondays - Thursdays. We also have book group every two months.  Contact Morpeth
Newcastle upon Tyne (West) Various evenings  We are a bunch living mainly in the Chapel House/Chapel Park area. We meet about 15/16 times a year on different evenings. Elloughton Brough Fortnightly on Mondays  Our age range is sixty plus, though we have a new member in her early forties. We currently have sixteen members with a good turn out at meetings.We arrange occasional theater outings and meals out.We are,usually, proud of our programmes! Pickering District   We meet on various weekday evenings about once a fortnight and cover a variety of topics, serious and light-hearted. We always enjoy food and drink-related topics and have social outings to the ballet, theatre, cinema, gardens etc. We don't have separate clubs but incorporate book review evenings and walks within our programme. We have a Treasure Hunt, a summer BBQ and a Christmas/ New Year party to which partners are invited. A very friendly and welcoming group.  Contact Pickering District
Whitley Fortnightly on Mondays  Currently 13 members aged 30 - 65. 2 retired, 4 with children under five, 3 part time and 8 full time working, in a wide range of professions.  Contact Whitley

York Fortnightly  Meetings are fortnightly, rotating through Mon - Thurs. We also have coffee mornings on alternate Thursdays and a book group once a month on a Tuesday.

Ackworth   We meet fortnightly on a Wednesday(term time only) and are a happy and very friendly group. We have a varied and lively programme which includes some outings.  Contact Ackworth
Bingley Monthly  We are a small but friendly group, our meetings are usually in a member’s home where we have a varied program, sometimes serious others lighthearted. We also occasionally have theatre visits, walks, visits to local attractions and meals out. New members are always welcome  Contact Bingley
Harrogate   We meet every 3 weeks on a Mon - Thurs rotation. We have a Book group that meets once a month and a morning group that meets every 2nd Thurs of the month at 10am.  Contact Harrogate
Horbury District Fortnightly Mon-Fri rotating.  Meetings are evenings with occasional lunches. We cover a broad range of topics from serious research based to more lighthearted. Topics such as food & travel are always popular. We also enjoy day and evening social outings, such as cinema, theatre, meals, places of interest and gardens. Knaresborough Fortnightly various days  We are a lively and friendly group, who discuss a variety of topics from serious to light-hearted. There is a monthly book group and lunch group, where we pick a theme/country or letter of the alphabet and everybody makes something accordingly to eat at a member's house. A regular walking group with partners has also been going for several years. Four times a year we have dinner with partners, again taking turns to host. Besides regular meetings we organise outings to the theatre or places of interest. Current membership is 19.  Contact Knaresborough

Bakewell   This is a new, friendly Group and is keen to grow. Meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of the month.  Contact Bakewell
Chesterfield   A welcoming and lively group that holds discussion meetings every three weeks alternating on a Tuesday or Wednesday. In addition, we have a Book Group, a Walking Group and hold Coffee Mornings, all meeting monthly throughout the year.  Contact Chesterfield
Chesterfield West Wednesday  We meet on alternating weeks on a Wednesday at 8pm. We are one of 2 groups in the Chesterfield area - meetings are a mixture of discussion, research and social events. We also have Coffee mornings, held monthly on Wednesdays or Fridays.  Contact Chesterfield West
Dronfield Varies  A friendly group which meets for fortnightly evening discussions on a rolling Monday through to Thursday. Monthly book, lunch and walking groups with occasional theatre trips.

Matlock Various  Active, lively and long standing group with a variety of activities.  Contact Matlock
Retford   We meet approx every 3 weeks Mon-Thurs evenings with occasional daytime events mainly in summer. We also have a separate book group which meets monthly using books provided by the Notts County Library service for reading groups.  Contact Retford
Rotherham Fortnightly, evenings & some day times Mon - Thurs  We are a group of about 15 members and have been established 23 years. We share almost all of our meetings and activities with the Aston Group. We have a mix of light-hearted and serious topics as well as social activities. We also have Bridge, Reading and Walking Groups.

Sheffield Crookes   We meet fortnightly in the evening on a Monday through Thursday rotation. We are a long established friendly group that welcomes new members.  Contact Sheffield Crookes
Sheffield (Fulwood) Fortnightly Mon – Thurs [rotating]  Happily ageing, but not de-generating, group; we would welcome an injection of younger (or older) blood to enrich the group’s discussion (if you can get word in edgeways). Sheffield South West   We are a small friendly group who meet up once a month on a Monday-Thursday rotation. We have a varied programme which might typically include theatre trips, book reviews, meals out, topical discussions, a midsummer walk and much more.
