North West Region

The NWR North West Region is divided into eight areas each of which contains a number of groups as set out below. If you cannot find a group near you please get in touch as new groups are being formed all the time.

 

NW01

Carlisle Alternate Thursdays  We meet mostly in members' homes. As well as fortnightly meetings we have a book group and regular social get-togethers, e.g. games nights, walks, quiz nights and meals.  Contact Carlisle
Egremont   We meet fortnightly rotating Tuedays, Wednesdays or Thursday. We've never won any prizes for various NWR competitions but we still consider ourselves an outgoing & lively group. Our discussions vary from the light-hearted to the serious and occasionally we have a speaker. We've had great days out in our lovely Lake District either visiting places of interest or walking.  Contact Egremont
Kendal Fortnightly on different weekday evenings  We have just over 20 members who live in Kendal or surrounding villages. As well as our fortnightly meetings we meet for lunch once a month and have two weekend social events every year. We are a friendly group that welcomes new members.  Contact Kendal
Penrith Second Thursday of every month.  We are a friendly group with a membership of 15 at present but we hope to attract new members, of any age. Our programme is varied with social gatherings as well as more serious topics for discussion.

Rossendale Alternate Tuesdays between 8:15pm and 10:30pm  We are a lively group and have a go at a wide variety of things. There's a lot of fun and laughter and we don't take ourselves too seriously. The group is over 30 years old and still has a few very longstanding members left, however we are really happy to welcome new members, if you'd like to give us a try. We've just put together our next annual agenda of meetings and there's a good variety of topics and outings offered. Something to suit everyone!  Contact Rossendale

Churchtown and District   Group meets fortnightly Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays. We meet twice a month in each other's homes on a rotating basis i.e. Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. We have speakers, discussions, meals out etc, all on a friendly, informal basis plus we also run a Book Group. We would love you to join us!  Contact Churchtown and District
Crosby Tuesday  We would be delighted to welcome new members to our Group.We meet fortnightly on Tuesday evenings in the Crobsy/Blundellsands area. In addition to our meetings we have walking weekends and a lively book club. We are in our 50's and 60's but would love to start another group aimed at 20's -40s. Do get in touch !!  Contact Crosby
Eccleston & Windle Wednesday  Formally St Helens. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Weds of each month. We have a reading and a scrabble group.

Formby Mon-Thurs rotation  We meet fortnightly in each others homes on a rotating basis starting on Monday and ending on a Thursday. We have discussions, speakers, educational outings, meals out and an annual summer walk. We welcome all new members by meeting for coffee in the village and by providing a lift to their 1st meeting.  Contact Formby

Maghull Lydiate   We are a very friendly group who meet once every month, on variable evenings. We have a planning meeting in September when members choose meeting topics.The topics are varied and include a mixture of serious and more light-hearted subjects. We also include at least one cultural meeting (music, poetry, film or art ) and have occasional visiting speakers. We have a very successful Book Group which meets monthly again on variable evenings. West Kirby Grange Monday-Thursday with occasional Fridays  This is a long established group with over twenty members. We meet fortnightly in members' homes. We enjoy a varied programme of evening meetings and occasional daytime excursions. A book group meets on the first Monday in the month. New members are welcome.

West Kirby / Newton Fortnightly rotating Monday - Thursday  We have been established over 25 years and currently have about 20 members. We are an informal and relaxed group, and our programme very varied, often foody! We also have several additional social events including a BBQ / Party/ walks / speakers / outings. Hawarden Monday  We meet fortnightly on a Mon. We are a lively, long-established and friendly group with over 20 members. We have discussion nights, quizzes, a summer walk & garden party. We organise trips to the Theatre and have food themed nights. All stimulating and fun. We also have a book group that meets every 6 weeks.  Contact Hawarden
Mold Thursday  We meet fortnightly on a Thursday. Small, long established group with 10+ members. We have a varied programme including discussions, quizzes, themed evenings, theatre trips, walks, annual BBQ and reqular 'book swaps'.  Contact Mold
Runcorn/Frodsham Third Wednesday of every month  As well as a varied monthly programme we have a thriving social network which includes trips to theatre and days out. Knutsford Fortnightly on rotating Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays  We enjoy a range of activities including walks, theatre trips, speakers and discussions on varied subjects. South Manchester fortnightly  a 'mature' group with 24 members currently, who meet approximately every two weeks in members homes and in other venues. We also have a lunch group.  Contact South Manchester
Timperley fortnightly  Lively group with varied individual interests. Meetings range from detailed discussions of topical issues to quizzes, games evenings, theatre trips and speakers. Also monthly book and walking groups, weekly swimming and lunch groups, and social dinner party circles and pub evenings.  Contact Timperley
Wilmslow1 Monday  Occasional meetings on other evenings or weekends - for visits etc. Fortnightly meetings attended by around 10 or 12 of our members - to discuss, argue, read, listen and enjoy each other's company. Outside speakers and some visits also. Come and join us!  Contact Wilmslow1

Disley Monday  We meet every other Monday during term time. We are a small friendly group but would welcome new members. Macclesfield Varies - Mon to Thurs  We meet every other week throughout the year and vary the day of the week. We also have other varied outings e.g. walks in the summer, theatre trips, a recent trip to London, a trip to a health spa, a book group that meets about every 6 weeks.
