South West Region

The NWR South West is divided into six areas each of which contains a number of groups as set out below. If you cannot find a group near you please get in touch as new groups are being formed all the time.

 

SW01

Bath Fortnightly Monday to Thursday on rolling basis  We are a lively, friendly group with about 22 members. Our programmes are very varied ranging from discussions, research on various topics, member presentations, walks/treasure hunts, watching and talking about films and occasional speakers. Batheaston Weds or Thurs (fortnightly)  We’re a friendly group who meet fortnightly (alternating between Wednesdays & Thursdays). Our programme includes discussions, speakers, theatre visits, walks and lots of good humour.

Nailsea   We meet fortnightly on different days of the week. We participate in walks, especially in the summer, trips to the cinema, art exhibitions and museums etc. We have close associations with a local book group & a play reading group.  Contact Nailsea
Portishead   We are a friendly and thriving group which meets weekly. Our programme includes discussions, theatre outings, walks, craft and creative writing evenings, a book group, and many other topics. Wells   We are a small, friendly group, which meets fortnightly. We have a varied programme, including theatre visits, and would welcome new members.  Contact Wells
Westbury-on-Trym Fortnightly on various days.  We are a friendly group and our programme varies from the lighthearted to the serious, with the occasional visiting speaker. We have a book group, a supper group and some social activities.  Contact Westbury-on-Trym
Yate Sodbury   Yate/Sodbury Group meet alternate Thursday evenings plus social afternoon once a week. Discussions, outings, walks, quizzes. New members very welcome.

Yatton   We meet on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month except August. We discuss various topics. We also arrange theatre, cinema visits, dine out or take a walk. On the last meeting in July we have a garden party.  Contact Yatton

Bradford-on-Avon Fortnightly on rotating days Monday - Thursday.  We currently have 20 members. We meet in each other's houses, during the afternoon for 2 hours in January/February and in the evening for the rest of the year. Our meetings are very informal and friendly. Calne Tuesday  We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday afternoons in the month, for discussions, outings, talks and social events. We also have a Sunday Lunch group. We are a new, small and friendly group and we would welcome new members.  Contact Calne

Trowbridge Fortnightly, Tues - Fri on rotation  We are a small, friendly 49+ group. We have discussions on topics of our own choice plus theatre visits, outings, walks and meals out. Dorchester Various evenings  We are a friendly group meeting approximately twice a month. We enjoy lively discussions on a variety of topics. During the summer months we like to have outside meetings, which may include a walk and a garden visit. Themed food evenings and meals together are also very popular.  Contact Dorchester
Ferndown West Moors Tuesday  We are a friendly group meeting every other Tuesday in members' houses. We have a summer outing, Christmas lunch at a restaurant and speakers from time to time and a programme arranged every six months at one of our meetings.  Contact Ferndown West Moors
New Milton   We meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Friendly group with members living in Barton, Lymington and Brockenhurst as well as New Milton. We have a varied programme at our monthly meetings. We have monthly lunches for those able to attend. We arrange Theatre trips and visits to local historical sites. Salisbury District   Salisbury Area NWR (includes outlying villages) welcomes new members. We meet twice monthly in each other's homes on alternate Tuesday & Wednesday evenings. Our programme varies from the lighthearted to the serious & includes walks, theatre trips, book reviews & speakers. We also run a separate monthly book club and a dinner party group. Ivybridge   Ivybridge NWR Members enjoy a mixed programme of researched and 'out of the hat' discussion topics plus the occasional speaker. We also organise a variety of social gatherings such as the Midsummer Walk, the Garden Party, Christmas Party and Post Christmas Dinner.

Newton Abbot   We are a friendly group who meet every three weeks on a Monday, then Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The fifth meeting is then back to a Monday. Totnes Monday  'We are a relatively new group formed in 2002. We meet the first Monday of the month. We welcome new members and have a varied programme of discussions [both serious and light-hearted] the occasional speaker and trips out.'  Contact Totnes
Truro Mondays  This group enjoys an enthusiastic membership and gives a warm reception to new members. Our programmes include discussions, research, topics with amusing or serious themes and going out together, especially to enjoy the lovely area in which we live. Once a month we meet for lunch at one of the many venues available in the area. We meet fortnightly on Monday evenings in each others' homes.   Contact Truro
Yealm   We currently have 22 members. Our group has members living in the riverside villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers, also nearby Yealmpton.
