The National Womens Register: Space to be you A place for talk

2005: Margaret Lavelle

Margaret Lavelle of the Kingsbridge NWR Group was an NWR member for many years and had done a great deal to keep NWR alive and thriving in the South West. She organised discussion lunches/dinners, garden visits and workshops; all of these events prevent the South West groups becoming isolated and inward-looking. In addition to these activities Margaret also regularly attends the Area Organisers' workshop and the National Conferences. Margaret's achievements lay in her ability to motivate and enthuse groups in the South West to participate in the various events. She showed a remarkable ability to co-operate with others and work as a team member. Margaret's achievements for the groups in the South West had been achieved despite ill health.

A quote from one of her nomiators: 'We all greatly look forward to Area events inaugurated or organised by Margaret and their demise would leave a gap in our lives'.

Ann Scarborough, last year's winner was to have presented the quaich but unfortunately she was ill. Instead Lesley Moreland, a member, previous National Group Member and past Trustee kindly agreed to present the quaich and the book token remembering Mary's profession.
