With the help of four YouTube clips from the TV programme ‘Who do you think you are?’ we learn about Yorkshireman Samson Fox who was an inventor, philanthropist, and the Mayor of Harrogate 1889-1892. He was also the Victorian ancestor of Emilia Fox (star of TV series ‘Silent Witness’). Aged 9 Samson Fox was working in a mill in Kirkstall. By age 40 he had become a successful inventor and entrepreneur, with his own engineering company in Leeds. Find out how he made his millions and the reason his reputation was nearly destroyed.
