On 20th July a group of us settled in the beautiful St John’s College Gardens in Cambridge armed with a picnic and an assortment of wet weather gear. We enjoyed our picnic as the venue filled to overflowing with an audience for Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. We were warned that so far this season no performance had escaped the rain. Nevertheless we were happily entertained for most of the first half by the humorous misunderstandings, loves and deceptions. The rain did then come quite heavily but, as with all great actors, the show went on. We did our best to keep dry and after the interval the rain had eased off and we managed to witness the happiest of endings with all lovers reunited. A lovely traditional Cambridge summer activity – next time we’ll bring bin bags.
