We are a small but very friendly group with members from Aston, Anston, Swallownest and Dinnington.
We join up with Rotherham (making 23 in total) for most of our fortnightly meetings which are on variable days during the week, Mon-Thurs.
We have a weekly Walking Group on Mondays (picnics in summer, pubs/tea shops in winter) with a programme covering historical walks, local walks and The Peak District.
Pre Covid, we had annual weekends away in Newcastle, Bath, Edinburgh, Dundee, Cambridge, Cardiff and Glasgow. In a few weeks we are restarting these events with a trip to Belfast. We arrange theatre visits and have a lively Book Group which meets roughly every 6 weeks, a fortnightly Bridge group and a weekly MahJong group.
We created a WhatsApp group in 2020 which is always very busy offering support, advice, news and videos. It was the perfect way to keep in touch and support each other during the Pandemic. We had to learn new IT skills. We still use individual WhatsApp groups to advertise each of our meetings to each other. We also learned how to use Zoom for our meetings during the Pandemic and found ways of meeting as rules changed – a playing field in groups of 6; ditto members gardens. We now meet in a church hall or in members’ houses, depending on the numbers attending.
We welcome new members.
