We are a friendly group aged between 50-85 and usually meet every 4-5 weeks in members’ houses. Occasionally we walk to a cafe or garden centre in the daytime- this supports our local businesses and we enjoy the walk, coffee & cake.
This year began with a planning meeting for the coming year, followed by an auction of unwanted Christmas gifts- which was great fun- and raised funds towards our annual summer party, always held at a member’s house/garden.
Our future events include 2 teams of NWR ladies entering a village quiz, a visit to a Waste Education site, an afternoon theatre trip to Cambridge.
Amongst our topics are ‘Memories of my Childhood Town; a book review of ‘Lessons in Chemistry’; a play reading by a published local author – for a small fee she sends the pages of a play for us to read amongst ourselves – this should be an amusing and enjoyable evening . There is also a talk from a local swimmer – she is disabled and has swum the English Channel.
This month we’re looking forward to a picnic & walk through a National Trust property .
During the latter half of the year we’ll be discussing what we are doing to improve our Carbon Footprint, join the popular Telephone Trail and finally look forward to our annual Christmas party – sometimes held at a Restaurant and sometimes at the house of a member.
For both the summer and Christmas parties, all members contribute to the feast – we have wonderful cooks in our group – & as you can imagine, it’s a really popular get together.
