A 9 week Deaf Awareness/British Sign Language basics course for NWR Members
IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE:
We have now reached our maximum numbers to attend the live course. However, if you still wish to purchase this course and view the recorded sessions only, these will be available for two weeks after each live event.
We will cover a wide range of topics and phrases/vocabulary to build a basic conversation with a Deaf BSL user. We will cover meet/greet phrases, how to avoid a breakdown in communication, how to end a conversation, the fingerspelling alphabet, family, travel, weather and directions as well as looking at the challenges of lipreading and other relevant cultural aspects of the course.
Emm Sharpe is a freelance Teacher/Trainer and Consultant who delivers fun, interactive sessions in BSL and Deaf Awareness strategies across the UK, both online and face to face.
Emm says “I strongly believe we need to re-educate people in how to communicate and interact with Deaf BSL users, remove misconceptions and ensure our services within the community are as Deaf friendly as they can be. We also believe it is vital to teach learners about the rich heritage of Deaf Culture and its importance within the Deaf Community. We do this by utilizing unique resources and invaluable insight into the every day challenges that D/deaf people face.”
Tickets for this course are £10.00 per member and spaces are limited.
Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
By purchasing a ticket, you are committing to the whole 9 week course, but recorded sessions will be available, to event ticket holders only, for a short period after each session in order to catch up.
