Following on from our meeting about events 100 years ago when one of the topics was the centenary of Graves Park in Sheffield, we decided to make our next walk an exploration of the history of Graves Park. We will be looking at the sites of old buildings, the original route of the road to London, the old quarry, the lakes, ancient woodland and the protected wildlife area of Chantryland Meadow and the Arboretum.
For those unable to join us on the route we will end up in the Rose Garden café for coffee and cakes. The cafe itself is steeped in history being the original pavilion, built in 1927 and takes it’s name from the formal rose garden, designed and laid out in 1938 by E.O. Sadler, which is located in front of the building.
