Mary Quant – Retrospective

” Mary Quant was a ground-breaking designer, whose energy, work ethic and can-do attitude changed the face of fashion in Britain” Bailie Annette Christie Chair of Glasgow Life.

Kilbarchan group will be visiting this major retrospective on the work of Dame Mary Quant between the 19 and 22 September. This international exhibition opened at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on 20 May and is the final chance to see over 100 garments, accessories, cosmetics and photos from the V&A’s extensive collections, Dame Mary Quant’s archive and many private collections. Famous for her super high hemlines, this exhibition goes on to explore the story of the miniskirt, dressmaking patterns, make-up and accessories all showcasing her famous daisy logo. Her designs often featured Scottish fabrics and designs including Harris Tweed, Paisley patterns, plaids, checks and tartans. The exhibition also features stories of women who responded to the V& A’s # WeWantQuant campaign which was a public call-out to locate garments, collect personal stories, memories and photos from people who had worn her clothes, including several Scottish contributors. There are over 100 objects visitors can see including the PVC rainwear ‘Wet Collection’ and a collection of Daisy dolls created in Scotland by Lanarkshire based Model Toys, the dress she wore when receiving her OBE in 1966 and the innovative jersey dress.
