NWR The World of Wuthering Heights with Margaret Mills

Looking at the background to the famous 19th century novel and the author’s possible influences. A clergyman’s daughter from a remote moorland township who died at the age of thirty, Emily Bronte’s life experiences were limited. Where did she find her inspiration for the themes of intense and undying love, betrayal and revenge? The wild Yorkshire landscape undoubtedly inspired her writing and many people think this book offers the finest descriptions of landscape ever committed to print.

Margaret is a part-time adult education lecturer, having taught in further, higher and adult education for many years. She also gives talks to various different organisations, her degree subjects and specialisms being History and English Literature, (mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries). Margaret also broadcasts a book review slot and a local history slot on community radio, and has contributed to newsletters, magazines and journals of both the Bronte Society and the Jane Austen Centre.

Margaret is always happy to answer questions after the talk, which aims to be informative, entertaining and with a touch of humour.

This online talk is for Members of the National Women’s Register.
