7:00pm
Terri will talk us through women’s early role in health care as herbalists, midwifes, wise women, etc and the impact of the Malleus Malificarum treatise against witchcraft which led to witch trials and the later witch hunts under James I, and some of the extraordinary methods used to identify a witch. We will also look at superstitions including witch bottles and witch marks and the last witchcraft trial in the UK. There’s an important movement now to “reclaim” the witches – pardons are now being sought for those who were burned as witches so it’s a really good time to look again at those women.
