We are one of NWR’s newest groups, having held our first meeting in October 2024 when an amazing 17 lovely ladies gathered at a popular cafe in central Barnstaple. Following a welcome from June, our local organiser, the ladies briefly introduced themselves to the group. The overwhelming reason for coming along was to meet like-minded ladies and to make new friends. To facilitate this, name badges were provided as an aide memoire and there was some discussion of ideas for future meetings. As a group we decided to have a Christmas tea during our December meeting on Thursday 12 December. As there were so many of us, we divided into two groups to discuss the topic for the day, ‘What is the scariest thing you have ever done or seen someone else do!’ This proved to be a popular and amusing subject which led to lively discussion, much laughter and hilarity.
Our meetings are held at 2.30pm on the second Thursday of every month at the cafe located between the Cattle Market carpark and the High Street. It’s easily accessible by car or bus. The proprietor kindly closes the cafe for us and makes available her excellent tea, coffee and cakes, etc!
Our monthly meetings will always include a light-hearted discussion topic, which acts as an ice-breaker and we generally find our discussions go off in all sorts of wonderful directions! There is no obligation to contribute to the discussion. We are a supportive and friendly group and understand some people might not initially wish to join in so it’s quite OK to just sit and listen – we want you to feel comfortable and to enjoy your first meeting. June will try to provide an opportunity to meet you if you join between meetings so that there is a familiar face at the first group meeting.
Our next meeting is on 14 November at 2.30pm. The topic is Artificial Intelligence – How is AI used currently? Advantage or Disadvantage? Where might it be leading? or What can we do now that we couldn’t do when we were young? And, what can’t we do now that we could years ago? Choose one of the above topics. We will divide into two groups according to your choice. 12 December is the date of the following meeting – discussion topic tbc.
Further meetings will be scheduled following discussion with the group as to New Year topics and activities.
