Our friendly local NWR group brings together women from Crieff and the surrounding area for lively discussion, interesting activities and, just as importantly, good company.
We meet regularly from September to June, usually every two weeks on a Wednesday at 7.30pm, with occasional afternoon meetings. Most meetings are held in members’ homes and are relaxed and informal, with tea, coffee and biscuits — and quite often a glass of wine!
Each meeting has a topic, activity or theme to get us talking and thinking. These can cover almost anything: current affairs, social issues, history, books, arts and culture, or simply an intriguing question that sparks a good discussion. The main activity usually lasts around an hour, with plenty of time before and afterwards to catch up and chat.
Throughout the year we also take part in some much-loved NWR traditions, including:
- The Telephone Treasure Trail — a national evening of cryptic clues, devised by a different NWR group each year.
- Book Night — when we discuss a book chosen by our group from NWR’s annual selection.
- Country Night — an evening devoted to NWR’s chosen country of the year, usually involving food to share, a quiz and the chance to discover something new.
- Christmas get-together — a relaxed pot-luck celebration in a member’s home.
- New Year meal — our annual meal out together.
- Summer outing — a day out to a local place of interest.
- Summer BBQ — when partners, friends and family are very welcome to join us.
There is plenty going on beyond our regular meetings too. We have four breakout groups — coffee, walking, culture and lunch — with arrangements organised by coordinators. These often take place on different days and at different times, offering a choice of activities to join.
New members are always welcome. You don’t need to know anyone before you come, and there is no expectation that you will have expert knowledge of any of our topics — curiosity and a willingness to join in are quite enough!
