On Friday 6 March 9 of us plus one potential new member met over lunch to celebrate IWD 26 ( it fell on Sunday 8 March this year). Lesley Anne hosted the meeting and invited folk to chose a poem to read from Donna Ashworth’s anthology To the Women. The individual choices were interesting and it proved to be a fairly emotional meeting. Those attending all agreed that it was a safe space to share their personal, (hitherto) private thoughts and feelings. “When women come together, something magical happens. It’s science, the mystical kind and it’s an unstoppable force to be reckoned with” from To the Women by Donna Ashworth.
The very first IWD was held in 1911 and the theme of IWD for 2026 is Give to Gain. It was thought that members of Kilbarchan Group might like to contribute to this theme in some way and a number of ideas were discussed. Linda and Lesley Anne will do some research about how we might support a local charitable organisation that supports women.
