Our attempt to join in with NWR Walk Month in May was postponed due to wet weather. We finally got to go on the walk earlier this month.
We had an excellent guide, Trevor Warburton, a very knowledgeable volunteer from the Friends of Cannock Chase. Trevor showed us the remains of some of the training camps that were set up on the Chase during World War I and also used during World War II. There were many shooting ranges where soldiers could practice and we found the remains of bullets fired many years ago.
This was a side of Cannock Chase that none of us had previously explored so we were interested to learn about the history.
