Iceland

Food, facts and fun ……

Our ‘Icelandic evening’ started off with a quiz, prepared by one of our members, always a good way to find out something new about a topic.  Then we tasted ‘Schnapps’, based on the Icelandic Brennivin. We made ours by infusing vodka, one with caraway seeds and the other with cinnamon bark.  Another member had researched some interesting facts about Iceland, which promoted some good discussions.  Our Scandinavian group member helped us understand and pronounce Icelandic words!

In between discussions we enjoyed homemade Icelandic cuisine: fiskibollur (fishballs), which you can see in the foreground, piparkokur (pepper cookies) and skyrterta (a no-bake dessert).

We then heard about Aud, a 9th-century female Viking, who was one of the principal settler women of Iceland. Finally, our members who had visited Iceland told us about their favourite experiences, including bathing in the 37 degrees C Blue Lagoon waters, seeing the stunning waterfalls and skidoo riding on a glacier.
