On Tuesday 26th August a group of us met in the tranquil Scholar’s Garden at St John’s College, Cambridge. It was lovely to meet up with members of our group after our summer break and we welcomed a Ukrainian friend of one of our members. Summer news was exchanged while enjoying our picnics before the play began. We were invited to join with the whole audience to cast a no-rain spell for the evening which thankfully worked.
“There’s not a man I meet but doth salute me as if I were their well-acquainted friend”
This quote from the play sums up the whole farcical performance of mistaken identity involving two sets of twins separated at birth. They come together in the ancient city of Ephesus with the context of two of the twins coming from its rival city of Syracuse. We were treated to an extremely lively, humorous and energetic production of the consequent Comedy of Errors. The dynamic cast had us transfixed from beginning to end.
