3 of us spent a pleasant morning boating about on Castle Semple Loch at Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire.

As well as watching the birdlife at RSPB Lochwinnoch Nature Reserve our guide told us about the wildlife including species we might be able to spot at other times including a family of otters that had just relocated elsewhere but they are hoping some might would return. The Rangers had been able to watch them on infra-red cameras that were motion activated. He also gave us a good account of the history of the area dating back to medieval times when the Semple family had been landowners in the area.

It was a very relaxing way to spend a morning. The Loch was flat calm and the warm dry weather held so we didn’t need our rain jackets after all. When our ‘Captain’ asked if we’d like a bit of fun we all agreed and he put the engine into full throttle for a while. No sickness pills required.
