We decided to go for a walk during NWR walking month and to invite the Bury St Edmunds group to join us. The National Trust’s Ickworth Estate was our chosen venue for Friday 30th May. The weather was hot and sunny and quite by chance we formed a perfectly balanced group of six: three from Cambridge and three from Bury St Edmunds, with another joining us at lunchtime.
Our luck was in as Lynn from Bury St Edmunds is an experienced walker and knew the Estate well. She guided us around a route which took in beautiful expansive views across the parklands, a walk by the River Linnet and the sight of many young lambs in the fields. We visited the old summer house in the walled garden and took some time to admire St Mary’s Church, giving us the opportunity to cool down a bit. We made our way back to the house and its magnificent Rotunda, with a stroll through the Italianate garden before going to the café for lunch.
Sunshine, good company, lots of chatter and an energising walk. Thank you to the Bury St Edmunds group for joining us and we hope to connect with you again soon.
