We’ve all been filling our green bins with recyclable waste, but where does it go? A group of us from Bookham went to our local re-cycling centre and were shown around the facility in Leatherhead. We all got to wear flo jackets and hard hats to enter this amazing place. From delivery by the collection lorries to the end bales going out this place sorted it all. We were shown the line where employees had sorted palstic and paper to the automatic sorting of glass (used in the construction of the nearby M25) and metal, checking of samples to see how clean incoming recycling is and monitoring proportions to the final bales whcih are collected to be dealt with elsewhere.
An interesting morning in a clean place (even if it was next to the sewage works).
