Thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s TTT. We hope you had fun.
264 groups and 224 Clue Holder volunteers participated this year.
With special thanks to Leicester South group for hosting and setting the quiz and for marking the entries and to our Clue Holder volunteers – without you, we simply couldn’t run this event!
We are delighted to announce the winners, picked at random from the entries receiving the highest marks / the most nominations:
GROUP WINNER: Sawley
CLUE HOLDER WINNER: Dorothy Daniels (Romiley)
Congratulations to the winners!
Please note, we are unable to confirm whether groups/participants have got questions correct or where they have been placed in the ranking.
Here is the full list of clues and answers:
This year’s quiz will consist of one daytime and three evening sessions
This is what some of you had to say after this year’s quiz…
“Please thank the Leicester South group for a brilliant set of questions for the treasure trail. I thought they were spot on. We didn’t have to do Internet searches for various obscure facts. Some of the questions we could answer very quickly, others took a little bit of thinking about and we were definitely scratching our heads for about the last half hour on the four questions we really struggled with. The answers were so easy and so obvious, once we worked them out, which is just what cryptic clues should be. Also, the (to us) harder clues were relatively evenly scattered through the questions so, hopefully, all groups had a few tricky ones to deal with.” Otter Vale
“We took part in the TTT Tuesday evening and we want to give you the feedback that we were very pleased with the quiz this year. The clues this year covered a good range of cryptic clue types and at an acceptable level of difficulty. Some clues were straightforward; enough were more challenging. It wasn’t too easy. We found it took us most of the evening to solve our 20 clues and we had at least seven clues which brought out the best in our lateral thinking and collaboration. The theme was a good one with plenty of scope. Quite the best TTT we have had for years! We all enjoyed the evening. Please convey our thanks to Leicester South Group for their great efforts and success.” Congleton
“Very much enjoyed taking part in the TTT last night, and looking forward to starting to receive calls soon as a clueholder tonight. Best wishes, and thanks to South Leicestershire for a lovely evening.” Pickering & District
“Thanks so much for TTT this year. Much enjoyed by our group here in Clevedon.”

We ask that during the week of the quiz you do not discuss the quiz or the theme on social media platforms as this can spoil the enjoyment for groups still waiting to participate.
CLUE HOLDERS
Thank you for volunteering. We can’t run this quiz without you!
You should have received an email with your clue and an answer to a previous clue for the day or days you are volunteering.
The NWR held its first Telephone Treasure Trail in 1995. 231 groups took part in that first TTT, and it was so successful it turned into an annual event; one of the most popular in the NWR calendar.
A fun, competitive quiz for up to 100 groups each day across four days in November.
Groups attempt to answer a block of 20 clues plus a compulsory web clue which all relate to a hidden theme. Each clue is given out by ‘clueholders’ – NWR members across the UK who are contacted by telephone. Each group starts off with one clue and then phones a clue holder for their next clue until they have their set of 20 clues.
Group and clueholder prize winners will be notified and announced on the website as soon as the host group have completed the marking and verification process.
2024 – Hosted by Beccles group
260 groups took part – 259 Clue Holder volunteers – 143 groups submitted correct answers.
GROUP WINNER : Leicester South
CLUE HOLDER Winner: Donna Wood (Milton Keynes West)
