A 75-minute tour of this subterranean Wagonway under the City. Find out about its history from the industrial age to WW2.
Accessibility – Level access but unsuitable for wheelchairs. There is a short steep ramp at the end, but a seated area is available for a short wait to re-join the tour.

Newcastle Lit & Phil library tour
Friday Tour 1: 2pm – 3pm                    Tour 2: 3pm – 4pm
Visit Newcastle’s exquisite independent library. Founded in 1825 it was a centre of learning and enlightenment long before the City’s universities existed. Situated almost next door to the central station so accessible via metro or Bus link. 20 minutes’ walk from delegate accommodation.

Aqua Aerobics
Friday 3pm – 4pm
Join Northumbria University’s sports experts for a bespoke NWR Aqua Aerobics class. You’ll have the opportunity to use the state-of-the-art sports facilities on campus, just minutes away from the conference venue and delegate accommodation. This will take place on campus at Sport Central, Northumbria University, NE1 8ST. Please bring a towel and swimming costume along with you, there are showers and changing rooms on site.

Newcastle Castle and Black Gate Tour Friday 2.30pm – 4.30pm
Enjoy a guided talk and tour from staff in historic dress. This imposing fortress is a rugged reminder of the North’s turbulent past and where the story of Newcastle began.
The location provides the most commanding views across the city and the River Tyne
The Black Gate is accessible, but the keep has many steep stairs and uneven surfaces. A video tour of the keep is available for those not able to access the full tour.

Newcastle Open Top Bus Tour
Friday 2pm – 3.30pm
Enjoy all the iconic landmarks of Newcastle upon Tyne from the comfort of an open-top Go North East bus. The bus will collect delegates from the conference site and drop them back here too.

Hadrian’s Wall Bus Tour
Sunday 1.50pm – 6.45pm
Stretching 73 miles from coast to coast, Hadrian’s Wall was built to guard the wild north-west frontier of the Roman Empire. Discover the remains of the forts, towers, turrets and towns that once kept watch over the Wall. This bespoke bus tour will offer a glimpse of the ancient wall spanning from Newcastle into the Northumberland Countryside. There will be stops along the way for photos, stretching your legs and a refreshment break. To ensure you can enjoy this experience to its max, please wear comfortable shoes.
