Recently, four members of Grantham group had their birthdays in the same week. One of them was on our meeting night so a talented member made one of her excellent cakes for us to share – a lovely surprise. The letters on the cake represent the first initial of each member!
Our discussion topic that evening was ‘The First Woman to…….’
It was a great discussion with a wide historical span of women such as Edith Smith (1876-1923) who was the first female police officer in the United Kingdom with full power of arrest. She served in Grantham! Coming right up to date, Jessikah Inaba, aged 23, made history in 2022, qualifying as Britain’s first black, blind barrister. Other subjects covered included Space, Mountaineering, Swimming and Horse Racing, to name a few.
