We are one of NWR’s newest groups, having held our first meeting in October 2024 when an amazing 17 lovely ladies gathered at a popular cafe in central Barnstaple. Following a welcome from June, our local organiser, the ladies briefly introduced themselves to the group. The overwhelming reason for coming along was to meet like-minded ladies and to make new friends. To facilitate this, name badges were provided as an aide memoire and there was some discussion of ideas for future meetings.
Since our first meeting we have had the pleasure of welcoming new members to our group, and we continue to grow.
Our meetings are held at 2.30pm on the second Thursday of every month in a central location.
The 2025 meeting dates, with the topic for discussion in brackets:
16 January – (New Year Resolutions – Past and Present)
13 February – (Valentine’s Day – Love)
13 March
10 April
8 May
12 June
Our monthly meetings always include a light-hearted discussion topic, which acts as an ice-breaker and we generally find our discussions go off in all sorts of wonderful directions! There is no obligation to contribute to the discussion. We are a supportive and friendly group and understand some people might not initially wish to join in so it’s quite OK to just sit and listen – we want you to feel comfortable and to enjoy your first meeting. June or another member will try to provide an opportunity to meet you if you join between meetings so that there is a familiar face at your first group meeting.
Sub Groups
The Book Group meets on the first Thursday of every month at 2.30pm
If you like the great outdoors, you will be interested in a Walking Group which will be forming in the spring. June Turner will be organising this and leading the walks. We hope to cater for varying abilities so that all are welcome. For this reason, we will not have a regular day and time but June will liaise with members of the sub-group to arrange walks, days and times to suit.
We also have a coffee morning group, a lunch club, a planning group, a film and theatre group, an outside meet-up group and a stitch group. You are welcome to go along to as many sub-groups as you like!
