Dangerous experiences

We had our first meeting and what a bunch of surprises! Our first surprise was how varied and interesting our group has already turned out to be. We then heard a bunch of surprising stories about a near ballooning-crash in Egypt, escaping terrorist bombs in Turkey, getting lost in rural France (pre GPS) with 2 kids, exploring off-road in rural Africa, riding route 66 on a Harley – and losing an 18 month old son in an international airport for half an hour. I mean!

We all enjoyed the fact that none of us had met before, so if you are undecided about joining a group where you will not know any one don’t worry, we are all in the same boat and you are more than welcome!

We then discussed meeting times and decided that in order to open things up to as many other people as possible we will alternate each month between 2.30pm and 6.30pm, always for 1.5 hours. We agreed that meetings will be on the 4th Monday every month.

Our next meeting is: 18th November from 6.30pm until 8pm. The topic for the next meeting is “My hobby – bring an item that demonstrates my interest”.

Everyone sounded excited about the idea of a Christmas event so we started brain-storming. At the moment we are thinking of a pub lunch or supper in or near Hatherleigh. Perhaps this might include a game or quiz?

28-10-24 UPDATE

As already mentioned our next topic is hobbies.

I (Clare) love watching BBC Bargain Hunt and have always wanted to apply to have a go as a competitor.  So I was going to suggest the following:

Would anyone like to apply with me?  (applications require 2 people who like antiques). Then if there is more interest after that perhaps more pairs of our members might want to apply? We could even see who does best?
