To celebrate IWD 2025 a group of us visited Glasgow Women’s Library on Friday 7 March. First things first though – we enjoyed a delicious and unhurried brunch close to Glasgow Central Station before heading off for a short train journey to Bridgeton Cross which is in the east of the city. The Glasgow Women’s Library has been mentioned on our webpage before – its a unique place being the only accredited museum in the UK that celebrates women and their achievements with a small lending library. (Here’s a link for more information about it services – https://womenslibrary.org.uk/ )
During our exclusive tour Claire our guide provided a history of the library, its various previous locations and also some interesting information about the current historical building which they hope will be its forever home. After the tour we enjoyed refreshments before taking time to look through a couple of handling boxes from their archive collection. One was dedicated to artefacts from the campaign for Women’s Suffrage and the other was a collection of ‘Women’s Magazines’ through the ages ( ranged from The Women’s Weekly to Marie Claire) which were quite a talking point. All of the photos used in this post are with the kind permission of the GWL.
