Deepings group is in south Lincolnshire, just north of Peterborough. The Deepings is a cluster of the villages Market Deeping, Deeping St James, Deeping Gate, West Deeping and Deeping St Nicholas. The name ‘Deeping’ means deep or low-lying fen and was given to the area by the Saxons in the 5th century.
At our recent meeting, ‘Made in Lincolnshire’, we learned about agriculture and engineering, including the invention of the tank; the drinks maker, Belvoir Farm; crafts made from English oak and wet felting; a folk song called ‘The Lincolnshire Poacher’ and the ‘Don’t Lose Hope’ well-being café and charity shop.
We then enjoyed sampling a range of local Lincolnshire foods and even a Lincolnshire rose wine.
