NWR The Man Who Caught a Million Criminals, Alec Jefferys and the Invention of DNA Fingerprinting with Dr Ian Goodall

Thursday, 6 August at 4pm.

This talk will be recorded and available to watch for one month after the live event.

DNA fingerprinting is another great British invention. Alec Jefferys, at Leicester University, invented the technique in the early 1980’s.

This talk describes how it was used for the first time – to solve a double murder and rape.

It then goes on to explain how the technique works and other important cases involving fingerprinting such as the King in Car Park, King Richard III and the last Russian Royal family.

The event finishes with explaining how we can use it for family history research.

Ian is the retired headteacher of a very large comprehensive school and has degrees from 4 UK universities.

After a long career in teaching, he is now a professional speaker.

He has a passion for biological and medical subjects, and this is evident when he talks. He has given over 120 talks, all with excellent feedback.

He lives in The South Downs National Park and enjoys cycling, golf, gardening and being a grandpa.
