Today 7 of us explored the Meanwood Valley Urban Farm in NW Leeds. Established in 1980 as a City farm, their goal is to reconnect urban people with their food. A locally popular attraction, they sell seasonal farm produce and run projects for schools.
Following a delicious lunch at their cafe, we explored the several artworks by Yorkshire carver Shane Green. The latest series of permanent chainsaw woodcarvings were commissioned by Leeds Inspired and Wades Charity to celebrate the farm’s 40th anniversary in 2020. The theme is ‘Sustainability, Environment and Change’. The sculptures are set within the landscape of the farm so we wandered through their shady footpaths seeking them out.
The afternoon rounded off perfectly with light refreshments and lively discussion.
