Inheritance Tracks

Our next meeting is a musical one, where we each select two pieces of music which have a personal resonance and explain why. You may have heard celebrities doing this on Saturday Morning Live on Radio 4, in the segment called Inheritance Tracks.

The idea is to choose one piece of music you have inherited from your parents and one that you would pass on to your children. If you want to understand a bit more about how it works you can go onto BBC sounds and search for Inheritance Tracks, where you’ll find loads of examples.

If you listen to some of the past Inheritance Tracks, you’ll see that they normally last around 7 to 8 minutes and people explain their choice while the music plays in the background. Given the technical challenges that would require and the fact that some of us struggle to hear at the best of times, that probably won’t work for us!
I suggest instead that we  introduce the first piece of music, the one we have inherited, play a bit, then stop it and explain why we have chosen it. This is then repeated for the piece of music we would like our children to inherit from us.
