14:00 – 15:00pm on Tuesday 14 January 2025 – THIS IS BEING RECORDED.
In May 2023, Geraldine set out from her own front door in Glasgow to walk to Rome. This was a huge journey, eventually 2009 miles, 6 countries, facing all kinds of weather, hills and terrain.
She had 2 rules “I am not carrying a rucksack and I am not going over the Alps”
This is not just a story about walking to Rome. At its very heart it is a story about the kindness of humanity. “Everybody I met was kind”. I was kindnapped – kidnapped with kindness all throughout the trip with permission to camp in gardens, being taken into spare rooms, fed and watered by strangers and gifted food “on the house” by pubs and cafes.
I did the walk to raise funds and awareness for 2 charities in memory of my parents – Dementia UK and Mary’s Meals. This fundraising is continuing through the talks and I have begun writing a book. To date the funds sit at over £15,700.
