Hello, we are the Croydon Group, in south London, between London & Gatwick Airport. Although our group is centered on Croydon, our members are scattered from Sutton to Caterham. We keep in touch with meetings twice a month, varying the days of the week.

We are a small group, limited to how many we can squeeze into our front rooms, but we have been running for a good number of years. We were a dozen members for many years, but now have been stretched to 15. Our programme has also changed recently – we are now all retired, and so can run occasional day trips to London. We don’t have meetings in August, but have a long-distance outing to somewhere new. In August 2024 we took the Elizabeth Line to Reading, and went to see the Bayeaux Tapestry at the Reading Museum – a visit we thoroughly recommend.

We are regulars in the NWR Telephone Quiz, and some of our favourite activities are our Games Evenings. We always take an interest in the country nominated each year by HO, and we agree on a Book to read and discuss. This year we chose “The Salt Path” by Rayno Winn, with mixed reviews ! We are lucky to have a number of City of London Commons around Croydon, so we also enjoy a shortish walk to a local pub for a late lunch, one in the Summer, and one after the excesses of Christmas.

The photo shows our walk, which is part of the NWR Walk event, to the lavender fields.

We take it in turns to host meetings at each other’s houses (but there is also no obligation if you prefer not to), and we also take in turn the role of Local Organiser for 1 year at a time.

New members are made to feel welcome. Please do get in touch using the contact button above if you’d like further information about our group.
