Meetings are held ‘in person’ on Monday afternoons and Wednesday evenings, two of each per month. We have a fairly light-hearted approach to a wide range of topics, but can be serious when the subject under discussion merits that. Members are not expected to do in-depth research and usually everyone looks into the topic for the meeting and comes with a few thoughts/reactions, though this is not expected – we realise that life can get in the way or a topic just might not ‘float your boat’ that week. We meet in members’ homes and the ‘host’ provides tea/coffee/cold drinks and biscuits. There are currently 12 members with an average of seven or eight attending each meeting. Topics and venues are arranged at a ‘programme planning’ meeting every six months, though changes can be made as circumstances change. We never seem to be short of ideas for topics and have a few favourites that are repeated, such as recommendations/swapping of books to read or five-minute thoughts on a topic suggested by a particular letter or colour etc.
There’s also a monthly pub lunch group plus a theatre and film group meets several times a year to decide on cinema and theatre visits, or gather at a member’s home to watch a film. We also enjoy occasional outings to places of interest locally.
See below for our current programme.
If you’d like to come along to a meeting, please get in touch with NWR and they will pass on your details to our LO. We look forward to seeing you.
