Oakham

We are a friendly group of 25 women who meet fortnightly on different  evenings and afternoons in members’ homes. We celebrated our 40th (Ruby) anniversary in 2014 and next year will be our 50th! Hard to believe. A highlight of 2014 was hosting a Regional Meeting at Rutland Water, attended by members from as far afield as Arbroath and Shoreham-by-Sea, which featured a talk on the Osprey Project based at Rutland Water and a boat trip on the Rutland Belle. So we must think of something special for 2024. We always try to have a guest speaker on each of our 6 monthly programmes; for example we have learned about the renovation of the Oakham Canal, we have tried to learn to play the Ukelele! we have listened to advice about fitness for the over 60s, and our inhouse archaeologist has kept us up to date with recent discoveries in Rutland.  On a lighter note, we annually enjoy a good walk, the chosen NWR country with BBQ social and Quiz in July, taking part in The Big Read, the intriguing Telephone Treasure Trail in November, and our Christmas party in December. “This made me laugh” always makes for a welcome and light-hearted discussion!
