In late summer a few of us headed from Apsley Marina, in Hertfordshire, towards Hemel Hempstead and back. The sun shone for us in the morning but after a picnic lunch, the rain arrived. Much needed, but we would have preferred it waited a few hours. We had opted for a picnic this time as, on the last two occasions, we missed booked pub lunch bookings due to canal related delays. Of course, this time we could have stopped. C’est la vie.
Despite the drought, the canal was full to overflowing at times. Such a wonderful feat of engineering.
A good day was had by all.
