A Literary Visit to Chawton

We had a wonderful visit to Chawton in February. We first went to Chawton House, once owned by Jane Austen’s brother and used as a background in her writing. Whilst the house itself has a fascinating history it now houses a unique collection of women’s writing and especially fosters research and understanding of early women writers, restoring them to their rightful place in the history of English literature. The library was very impressive.

After a stroll through the delightful grounds to admire the snowdrops, then lunch, we continued our visit to Chawton by going to the Jane Austen museum in the cottage where she used to live. We were also blessed with beautiful sunny weather which made our outing even more enjoyable.
