All at Sea

Our last meeting for Bury St Edmunds group took the subject of ‘The Sea’ as a starting point.
Often, for some reason, meetings for these rather general topics only attract a small number of our members. Not so this one! There were 13 of us and barely a chair to spare.
It is a very wide-ranging topic, of course, and obviously appealed to everyone in one way or another, many for personal reasons.
We went around the room and touched upon:
Seahorses; Emil Nolde (artist); the UK’s seas; the idea of The Seaside; Greek mythology (Odessey, Poseidon, Homer); the poetry of Helen Dunmore & Brian Bilston; the Herring Girls; JMW Turner; Spike Milligan & John Masefield; The Dead Sea; Sea turtles, Mysteries…..and as many personal stories of our own personal attraction and connection to the sea as we had time for.

It is a brilliant subject for a meeting – varied and almost inexhaustible, it would seem.
