An inside look at an NWR trustee meeting: Energised & exhausted!

Last week I travelled to Birmingham to join the trustees, as an observer, for their January meeting. It was terrific! I came away mentally exhausted (as it took a while for the aging brain to engage) but greatly energised by the experience.

In addition to our four trustees there were three members of our hard working support team, covering marketing, finance and membership. The agenda was full on and it required everyone to have done their preparation. I was truly impressed by the professionalism of the group, their commitment to ensure that NWR, as an organisation, has good governance and by their determination to provide for not only the current membership but for the future ones too. Not an easy feat in this day and age of vast compliance requirements. But rest assured, NWR is in great hands – and they are all working hard on our behalf.

We all need to do ‘our bit’ to ensure that the organisation is in as good a position as it could possibly be: Are the meetings as good as they can be? Are the progammes current and imaginative? Do we each really do the most we can to develop and encourage new members? Something for us all to think about perhaps… The trustees and staff cannot do it all by themselves, some of it comes down to each and every one of us…
