Our last meeting here in Bury St Edmunds was on the topic of “GREEN.”
We have often chosen to focus on a colour for one of our meetings, but usually primary colours.
This time, it being spring/early summer, green seemed a good choice, and maybe a bit challenging.
Our members were not fazed, however. We started with our host showing us all the items around her house which she had gathered that day – quite surprising! Everything from garden string, shower gel, 12 reels of sewing cotton, crayons, to a Spanish passport cover and hand towels, with lots in between.
Everyone found a subject to talk about, amongst them being:
Chlorophyll and photosynthesis; Rachel Carson and ‘Silent Spring’ (the start of environmental/green awareness); the colour Emerald Green; Greengages (brought to England by the Gage family of our local Hengrave Hall); Emerald gemstones (beautiful examples); Jack in the Green traditions (not the Green Man – quite different!); Greensleeves (who wrote it, and different recorded versions)….. so many things to choose from.
Choosing a colour is always a good idea for a meeting. It inspires discovery!
