Ruth, courtesy of Jan Du who was the contact, organised a great demonstration for us this week. Jude, who is a local jewellery designer and maker, came along to Liz’s house and showed us from start to finish how to make an embellished silver ring. It was absolutely fascinating to watch the intricate process to get from a small piece of silver to an eye-catching ring. We not only watched, but were invited to participate. Liz did some silver hammering, Ann did some tricky stuff mid-process, and I did a bit of filing down – but with insufficient ‘oomph’! Liz got to keep the ring, made to measure for one of her little fingers, and was pleased with the result.
Jude joined us afterwards for tea and cake, a lemon drizzle home-baked by Ruth. Jude runs workshops in jewellery making, so it will be interesting to see if any of the group who went will have a go.
