“Ladies of the Vale” tour of Lichfield Cathedral

Four members of our group enjoyed a short guided tour of Lichfield Cathedral, focused on the role of women. We were shown statues on the front of the cathedral carved by Mary Grant, a memorial inside to Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, involved in the development of smallpox vaccination and told the sad story behind the famous “Sleeping Children”. It was an informative half hour and it made us appreciate the amount of history we are surrounded by in Lichfield
