Inspired by the North-West’s medal haul in Tokyo Olympics and local couple Ann Packer and Robbie Brightwell’s success at Tokyo 1964, members presented local Olympians and we discussed them. These included :-
Thomas and Emily Ford, sibling rowers from Holmes Chapel who supported one another,
John Gimson from Congleton who won silver in the Nacra 17 sailing after a 20-year journey,
Luke Greenbank from Crewe in backstroke swimming,
Elliot Henson from Macclesfield in the Laser Sailing (unfortunately disqualified),
Lee Pearson from Cheddleton – multi-medalled Paralympic dressage winner with terrific drive,
Anna Walkin from Leek who won gold in double sculls with Katherine Grainger in 2012,
Karis Artingstall from Macclesfield – amateur boxer for whom boxing provided a good outlet for her restless energies.
