Sheffield Fulwood Group’s programme regularly includes 3 walks per month, with something to suit most people’s fitness level. This month during NWR walking month eleven of our group have been able to join in at least one walk.
The first Monday of the Month walk is a stroll through Bingham Park to Forge Dam, a distance of about two miles. We first started walking this route, socially distanced, during Covid lockdown.

This time we were able to make NWR Connections with some members of Sheffield Crookes Group.
This is a delightful level walk, which we featured last year as “Why not Give it a Go?” during 2024 NWR Conference Sheffield preparations.
The second Monday of the month is a more strenuous walk of about 5 miles, usually in the Peak District.
This month three walkers enjoyed a delightful sunny walk in Coombe’s Dale, with a climb up to Longstone Edge. The views were stunning at the top, and we enjoyed birdsong from warblers, (identified using the Merlin App!), cowslips, bluebells, hawthorn blossom, and plenty of lambs.

The third Monday of the month is our Short Walk Somewhere , usually about 3 miles, avoiding hills, and often within Sheffield.
On this occasion seven members of the Group went for a walk through Ecclesall Woods. This ancient woodland has a history traceable on maps dating back to the 1600s. The land was donated to the City of Sheffield by J G Graves, a local philanthropist, and it is a popular walk for locals, especially during the bluebell season. It is a huge area of woodland and it is quite easy to get lost as we discovered!
