On a beautiful July evening a group of us set out from The Baskerville Arms in Shiplake-on-Thames on our summer pub walk, an annual feature in our programme for most of our 50 years as NWR Sonning Common.
We ambled happily and chattily under the Shiplake Railway Bridge, built in 1897, which marks the beginning of the reach towards Marsh Lock in Henley-on-Thames. Then on through the parched grass fields adjoining the Thames Footpath, before looping around to enjoy the sunset by the lock at Shiplake at the confluence of The Thames and the Loddon.
Our circular route took us back through picturesque Lower Shiplake and to The Baskerville Arms, an award-winning family and dog-friendly pub just a stone’s throw from the River Thames. The food and service was impeccable and we would thoroughly recommend a visit if you are ever passing through from Reading to Henley.
