Thank you to everyone who attended the recent Angela Walker Quiz. The winners were Rugby. Leicester came in second and Coventry in third – so very well done to all your teams!
The Angela Walker Quiz is an annual event held in MD04, the West Midlands and Warwickshire area.
The quiz was first suggested by Solihull member, Angela Walker, who was a keen attendee at local quizzes and thought it would be a great way to bring together the groups in our area.So, in 1991 Solihull invited thirteen groups to send one or two teams of four to a local hall – and it was a great success. We now have around 15 teams participating every year.
Angela sadly died a few years later so we decided to name the quiz after her. When the first trophy was full we gave it to her children who were very pleased to receive it and to know she was still being remembered.
We offer a glass of wine and nibbles on arrival and homemade cakes and tea or coffee in the interval. Over the years the format has stayed much the same with about 10 themed rounds, a blockbuster and a joker to be used on any round.
This year, Solihull NWR hosted in Rowington Village Hall. and Dunchurch NWR set the questions. We enjoyed wine and nibbles to start the evening and lots of delicious cakes and tea or coffee in the interval – a pattern which works very well we find! Thanks to our LO Yvonne for coordinating it all (and her sons for helping with the tables) and Solihull Group who contributed cakes and helped with the setting up, washing up, etc.
We look forward to next year’s quiz with Kenilworth NWR to host and Rugby NWR to set the questions.
