Unsolved Mysteries…. 🔍

Ten of our Bury St Edmunds group met last week to explore the topic of “Unsolved Mysteries”.

At first glance, one might think it would be one of those rather obvious subjects where everyone reads out some Wikipedia research, we all nod and “Hmmm”, then we have a cup of tea.
But, true to our BSE credentials, it proved to be entertaining, weird, sad, interesting, puzzling, and hilarious in equal measure. Never a dull moment with us!
The topics chosen by our members covered events both historic and current, global and local.
First of all, we pondered over what a ‘Mystery’ is, and where the word originated, then delved into a variety of offerings from members.
We heard about, wondered at, and attempted (highly unlikely) explanations for:

. Who were the Green Children of Woolpit (a local town) and where did they come from?
They would eat nothing but broad beans when they were discovered……… 🧒🏻

. The Disappearance of Glenn Miller, who spent the last few months of his life here in the East of England.
What happened to his plane? ✈️

. The Mystery of Overtoun Bridge in Scotland – infamous as the “Dog Suicide Bridge” due to the hundreds of dogs which have inexplicably jumped the 50 ft drop from it and perished. Why? No-one can find a reason. Baffling…. 🐶🐕

. Where are the Bones of St Edmund?
Are they really under the old tennis courts here in the Cathedral grounds?
Yet to be explored! 🏹

. The Disappearance of Amelia Earhart, somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. ✈️

. Whatever happened to the annoying cockerel in local village Hengrave? 🐓
It just mysteriously ‘disappeared’ one day… 😉

. Why can no-one explain the mystery of the body in a wetsuit found in February in Claerwen reservoir, Wales? 😔

. Was Atlantis real, and if so, where on earth is it? 🏰

and lastly, with much laughter…..

.The Mystery of Lost Socks. Where do they go, and did you know there is a formula for calculating how many you are likely to lose in any given period? [see top of post]🧦🧦
