On the morning of the 1st April we had an interesting discussion on who we might invite to dinner either for the whole meal or for each course. No one mentioned it was April Fools day so we really took this idea seriously! There were some reflections on inviting family members now deceased and what kind of personal conversations would take place? They say ‘Ask questions now before it’s too late!?’There was also a feeling of wanting to reconnect with ‘lost’ friends.
Some details had arisen on ancestry searches which required some answers to past events. There was agreement on certain choices of famous people such as George Harrison who as a band member of the Beatles was ‘caught between two egos’. It was said that his great grandfather was Indian and that perhaps this was why he was drawn to eastern mysticism. It was agreed that Sir David Attenborough would be an excellent guest. Also Amy Winehouse, Tony Blair and Tony Benn. (‘a lovely man’) and Emile Durkheim.
There was also interest shown in dining with Kim Philby the Russian spy! Rudyard Kipling, Sunni Williams the female astronaut and Jeremy Clarkson whose farm show is entertaining.
A funny story was told by one member about her dad throwing a rice pudding? Should he come back and explain himself!
In connection to Amy Winehouse we had a good chat on the fun of attending Glastonbury. One member had been 25 times!
Another choice was Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife Olena whom he met as a high school sweetheart. He was formally a comedian and actor who actually played the part of a President. This has now become a reality and his life has changed completely! His first language is Russian! He has a degree in law and speaks several languages. The meal would be very traditional: Borscht soup; Dumplings; Meat; Potatoes and cabbage. Cheesecake and his favourite cocktail of Ginger beer, Honey, pepper and vodka. Try it!
