A few of our members had a great day out on 31st May at Helmingham Hall gardens in Suffolk (www.helmingham.com) with several members away we were a select band of 9. The Hall is a private home so not open to the public but, with it’s moat and turrets, is a perfect backdrop to the beautiful garden. The herbaceous borders were in their full glory, and an added bonus was a sculpture exhibition throughout the grounds. While admiring the impressive planting great fun was had following the sculpture trail, and checking the list to see the prices of some very wonderful and artistic creations! Most of them were sadly beyond our budget, although we fully appreciated why they would reach such high prices! There were however some in the lower range and one member came away with a birthday wish list! The trail was by ‘Art For Cure’ a breast cancer charity (artforcure.org.uk) so a percentage of the proceeds went to a very good cause. The weather was decidedly on the cool side as Suffolk was beneath a thick band of cloud, so the sun did not appear, though the rain kept away so we were fine. A very delicious lunch was had in the Cafe, now run by Wrights which has a branch in Bury St Edmunds, so some of us were already familiar with their rather impressive cheese toasties. All in all it was another very enjoyable and fun day.
